We respect your privacy and do not disclose your IP or host address to anybody.

Your IP address is the unique web address your hosting provider gives you when you connect to the internet. You can be identified by us when you reconnect or when we do a /whois on you (limited to super administrators on the chat network). We use the IP to block abusive users, or to help you identify to your nickname to our services. We don't collect these details for data mining or advertising, etc. And the same goes for your email address.

We want to help you protect your privacy and to prevent you from receiving abuse on our free chat network. To ensure this we have installed services and features that help out achieve that goal.

First of all, everybody who connects to our network (registered nickname or not) gets the masking flag +x.

The user mode flag +x takes 50% of your host address and scrambles the data to make it unique and useless. Sometimes it is even 100%.

Example: your host dailup-15.dsl.comcast.net gets scrambled, and looks like this to everybody else: sdfsdfsdfsdf.comcast.net making it useless to be abused or identified uniquely by it.

To manually turn this feature off: /mode YourNick -x
(replace yournick with your online nickname)

To manually turn this feature back on: /mode YourNick +x

Turning it off will make your host public to everybody again.

Ok, this is done default, you are hiding your hostmask from the public.

Now, we have something else that is pretty cool, and free to use. The host mask service bot. Hostserv. Using this bot we can give you a complete fake and unique host. This is very cool for those who own a channel and want to give or have a host address to identify themselves with as staff.

An example of valid vhosts you can request at all times

@beep.beep
@staff.yoursite.com
@windows.users.are.lame
@i.am.from.the.government.org
@something.fake

We can not give you hosts to impersonate others but we can give you complete fake hosts. As long as there is a dot in it, and doesn't contain obviously faul language or something illegal.

How to get it?

You can ask in this thread, or /msg floris I want a vhost please! when you're online, or /msg hostserv request your.vhost.request

If you requested one but never got it, PLEASE request it again or send me a private message on IRC or on this forum.

To use your vhost you have to be identified to your nickname.
To activate the vhost you have to type this once: /msg hostserv on

At any time you can come to #help and request a vhost, or to ask for changes, or help. Or post in this thread.
